CAREER HISTORY & SPECIALISMS

Ruth was called to the Bar in 1996, qualified as a solicitor in 1998, and became a Higher Courts Criminal Advocate in 2005. She was accepted onto the Attorney General's C list of Prosecution Advocates in 2006. She has specialised in crime since qualification, representing clients charged with offences ranging from murder, rape and robbery, to serious fraud and arms dealing.
She has a particular interest in Human Rights and taught on the Bar Council Human Rights Programme from 1999 to 2005.
 
In 2004 she became a solicitor agent for the Health and Safety Executive and has since practised primarily in the area of regulatory crime as agent for the Health and Safety Executive. She is listed as a "leader in the field of health and safety" in the 2011 edition of Chambers and Partners Guide to the Legal Profession. She has a particular interest in offshore and explosives work and has completed the offshore safety course.
 
She is a contributing editor of 'Corporate Liability: Work related deaths and criminal prosecutions' and regularly writes and lectures on health and safety law and criminal practice and procedure.
 
She also regularly undertakes fraud, confiscation and licensing work, with a particular interest in cyber and international crime.
